Textiles:
The origin of textile patterns can be traced to specific groups of people in specific locations. Textile patterns can be read as anthropological artifacts that carry on a regional pictorial and cultural tradition.
I was interested in this idea when creating my collection of Chicago Textiles. The textile motives derive from my drawings of Chicago buildings whose architecture is repeated throughout the city. The traffic patterns playfully signify the patterns of urban congestion which navigate the city streets. Buildings and traffic being basic elements of Chicago’s urban experience, I created the textile motives to both identify and unify a regional vernacular.
